The commission consists of seven members appointed by the mayor with the approval of the City Council. Two members shall represent the disabled members of the community. Members must be resident electors of the City of La Mesa.

Members are appointed for four-year terms and serve without compensation.


The commission serves as an advisory body to the City Council on matters pertaining to programs, projects, and issues that address the resident's needs and promote goodwill in the community. It is the responsibility of the commission to explore issues and develop activities that will promote positive human relations in the City of La Mesa.
